Hints on How to Improve
Accuracy When Searching Photo Keywords Only:
Limit Per Page:
This is the maximum number of results you'll see displayed
per page. If the number of results is more than
the Limit, you'll have the option to
click on additional pages.
Use minus (-):
Use a minus sign to indicate undesirable term(s). A minus
sign indicates that a word or phrase must be absent in
the search results. Leave no spaces between the minus
sign and the term. A search for London-England
will find all keywords that have London and do
not have England.
Search for Phrase & All
Words:
Two searches in one, and will yield the most
results. The search will match your phrase exactly;
all words in the same order must be found for results
to be displayed, AND the search will also return results
for any combination of any of the words in your search
criteria. Searching for London England will
find all photo keywords containing the word London
immediately followed by England, and all keywords
containing just London and just England,
and all keywords containing both the words London
and England in any order and with any number of
words between. Results will be sorted first by phrase,
then by descending order of words found.
Search for All Words:
Any combination of the words must be found. Results
will be sorted by most words found to least words found.
Search for Matching Phrase:
Must match all characters in your phrase exactly
to get any hits. All words must be found and in
the same order. Using the London England
example, both words must be found, and England
must immediately follow London in the caption to
get a hit. Also, searching for India will
get hits on India and words containing India,
such as Indian and Indiana. Results
will not be listed in any particular order.

Hints on How to Improve
Accuracy When Searching ALL of PhotoSourceFOLIO:
Check spelling:
Make sure your search terms are spelled correctly. The
search engine will attempt to find words that sound similar
to your search terms, but it is always best to try to
spell the search terms correctly.
Use multiple words:
Use multiple words when performing your search. The search
results will return more refined results from several
words than from a single word. For example, typing sell
& resell will return more relevant results than
typing only sell. (Keep in mind, relevant results
are returned even if they don't contain all query terms.)
Use similar words:
The more similar words you use in a search, the more relevant
results you will get back.
Synonyms and sound-alikes:
Our sophisticated search engine will attempt to
augment your search terms by using synonyms and "sounds
like" algorithms. Therefore, the results may
include words that you didn't ask for, but may help you
find what you're looking for.
Use appropriate capitalization:
Capitalize proper nouns. Lowercase words will match any
case. For example, typing search will return all
documents containing the words search, Search, and SEARCH.
However, typing Search will only search for pages
containing the word Search.
Use quotation marks:
Use quotation marks to find words which must appear adjacent
to each other, for example, "our pledge to you".
Otherwise, the search results will include the word our,
pledge, to, and the word you, but not necessarily in that
order. The words may appear anywhere and in any order.
Use plus (+) or minus (-):
Use a plus sign when your search term or phrase must appear
in the search results. Use a minus sign to indicate undesirable
term(s). The plus sign tells the search engine that a
certain word or phrase is required in the search results,
and a minus sign indicates that a word or phrase must
be absent in the search results. Note: A phrase must be
contained within quotation marks. Leave no spaces between
the plus or minus sign and the term. A search for
"London-England" will find all keywords
that have London and do not have England.
Use wildcards:
Wildcard searches can expand the number of matches for
a particular request. The * character is used as the wildcard
character. Similar to searching your computer for files,
searching for wh* will find the words what, why,
when, whether, and any other word that starts with
wh. Searching for *her* will find the words
here, whether, together, gathering, and any other word
that contains her anywhere in the word. Wildcards
may be combined with the standard plus (+) and minus (-)
modifiers, quotes for phrases, as well as the field search
specifiers. +wh* -se*ch will find all pages which
have a word that starts with wh and that does
not contain a word that starts with se and ends
with ch. "wh* are" will find the phrases
where are, what are, why are, etc.
